Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection permanent secretary Eseta Nadakuitavuki says the Korean International Cooperation Agency’s (KOICA) commitment to improving livelihoods in Fiji and around the world was positively impacting communities and individuals.

Ms Nadakuitavuki made the comment as she received income generation assets and equipment donated from KOICA Country Director Kapchae Ra last Friday.

She expressed the Ministry’s appreciation of the support received from KOICA saying the remarkable partnership between KOICA and the ministry would greatly benefit women’s groups from across the four divisions in the country.

The PS shared many Fijian women were still unable to achieve true economic empowerment because of social, religious and cultural norms that dictated women’s participation in the economy, limiting resource inheritance and ownership, financial autonomy and independence.

She said the external support in the form of assets and equipment would not only empower women’s groups in paving the way towards ensuring sustainable economic development, but also benefit their families and communities.

Ms Nadakuitavuki urged the five women’s groups that will benefit from the initiative to actively engage in capacity building sessions that shared good practices and innovative business ideas.
