The maritime islands is one of the neglected areas for the church, says Assemblies of God (AOG) general secretary Pastor Filikesa Koroivueta.
Mr Koroivueta said one of their policies this year would be working closer with people in the Northern Division.
“We have identified that the Maritime Islands and the Northern Division is slowly growing in matters of establishing churches,” he said on Tuesday.
“But they are our prime and there are potentials to build churches.
“So one of the things we have done this year is like the government’s look North policy, we also wanting to be more closer to our northern people.”
Mr Koroivueta said training and visitations were made to church ministers serving in the maritime islands.
“We conducted a lot of training and visitations and empowering of our leaders to encourage them to build churches in the Northern Division and as well as the Maritime Division.
“Maritime is one of the most neglected areas, that we had not really touched.
“We can say that one is because of transportation, and because of where they are situated it’s hard to go there.
“But right now at the maritime we have churches in Kadavu, Lomaiviti group, and in Lau we have Vanuabalavu and Lakeba, Tuvuca and Moala.”
