FIJI Water Flying Fijians head coach Simon Raiwalui says the team’s approach to their opening match of the Rugby World Cup is still the same despite losing trump fly-half Caleb Muntz to a knee injury earlier this week.

“We still have the same approach, mindset, and philosophy for when we started, and nothing changes now,” he said.

“We had a group of 45, now we’re down to 33 for the world cup, so we trust every person in the squad in their positions.”

Muntz was ruled out of the RWC four days before their first game after stumbling to a knee injury during a training session with the squad.

“So, it was a non-contact injury, he was going for a high ball and landed on that knee.

“So, it’s a long-term injury and we’re all upset he won’t be with us for the World Cup.”

He said Muntz had come a long way in working his way up the ranks to finally be named into the Flying Fijians.

“It’s upsetting because he has come a long way, from the Fiji Warriors to the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and finally in the squad.

“He has also worked very hard over the past three to two years, and we’re upset to see him go.”

Fiji plays Wales in its opening match at 7am on Monday.
