With the Oceania Football Confederation Under-16 Women’s Championship less than a week away, the spotlight shines on two talented sisters from Nasinu, who are part of the Digicel Junior Kulas.
Fourteen-year-old Shania and 16-year-old Sonia Singh will be running out for the national side as the squad leaves for the championship that will be held in Tahiti.
Fiji Football Association, in a statement said, the duo have been playing football together since childhood, and were both living examples of dedication and passion for football.
Both Sonia and Shania have proudly represented Nasinu FC in various age groups, including the girls’ U16, U19, and senior teams.
Balancing schoolwork, soccer, and social life has been a demanding task, but these sisters have demonstrated an incredible ability to manage it all.
Growing up, the two have always played with and against boys on their backyard turf where they learned to hone their skill and talent in football.
Their father, Jalindar Singh, a former Nasinu FC rep, expressed his disbelief and immense pride at the rapid realisation of their dreams.
“It’s a proud moment for our family as both my daughters will be the first to don the national jumpers and fly the Fijian flag at international level.”
“It was definitely a dream come true.
“Having both of them accomplish these big dreams is such an amazing thing.”
He always believed that this day would come, but it arrived sooner than expected.
“There are times when I sit back and watch them play and I’m always struck by even for how young she (Shania) is, how much she can compose herself on the ball and how patient and how skilful she can be.”
