The Fiji Government has expressed its gratitude to departing Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union for the Pacific, Sujiro Seam for his support over his tenure in the country.
Mr Seam met with Foreign Affairs Assistant Minister Lenora Qereqeretabua earlier this week, where she thanked Ambassador Seam for his work and wished him all the best for his future endeavours.
She acknowledged the European Union’s (EU) ongoing cooperation and support for Fiji’s socioeconomic development priorities.
Mr Seam said with his new diplomatic posting in Indonesia, he looked forward to working closely with the Fiji’s Embassy in Jakarta to deepen levels of cooperation.
He also thanked the Government and the people of Fiji for their unwavering support.
In particular, he commended the Government for its approach to openly engage with the EU in a transparent manner and stated that the EU highly appreciated this new approach, where people could express themselves freely in a democratic society.
He said he was optimistic the recent launch of the Fiji and EU Trade and Investment Forum would also increase opportunities to enhance this partnership.
Mr Seam hosted a farewell reception at his residence where President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere and members of the diplomatic corps, members of the civil society and members of the private sector were in attendance.
Prior to his appointment in 2019 as the new Head of the European Union Delegation for the European Union (EU), he was the ambassador of France to Fiji.
He was also accredited to Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga, and Tuvalu.
