The Navua football side left it late to secure a crucial draw against the Rewa side in the Digicel Fiji Premier League yesterday. Solomon Island import Jared Rongolisua scored from the penalty spot in injury time to level the scores 1-all in a highly tensed match.
Rewa took the lead early in the match when former Navua rep Monit Chand blasted in the first goal. Chand joined Rewa from Navua in the latest transfer window and scored his first goal for the Delta Tigers on a ground he knows too well.
Rewa had the opportunity to double their lead on a number of occasions but failed to do so.
The reds led 1-nil at halftime. Navua was a shadow of a team which defeated Ba at the same venue two weeks ago and failed to test Rewa stopper Alzaar Alam for much of the second spell.
Rewa had the momentum for much of the second spell until midfielder Tevita Waranivalu was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Navua coach Saiyad Ali made some tactical changes and midfielder Vineet Chand came up with a beautiful through ball setting Jackson Wale on a run from the flanks.
Wale outpaced Rewa defender Madhwan Gounder, the latter fouling the marksman inside the box giving the referee no option but to award a penalty to Navua.
Rongolisua made no mistakes placing the ball past Alam to level the scores.
