THE Fiji Police Force issued 151,025 Traffic Infringement Notices in the 2019-2020 financial year worth $7.42 million, states the Annual Report of the Fiji Police Force for the Fiscal Year 2019–2020 that was tabled in Parliament last week.
And 59,913 TINs were issued for speeding that totalled $1.49 million, 4895 were issued for seat-belt offences that were worth $195,800, $1 million worth or 5204 TINs were issued for careless driving, 1282 TINs worth $641,000 were issued for drunk and drive arrests while $4 million worth of TINs were issued for other traffic offences.
“As a result of enforcement duties, the Traffic Control Division intercepted 317,040 vehicles, conducted 9,719 school patrols, conducted 17,666 operation duties and facilitated 122,691 awareness activities,” the report said.
“The Traffic Control Division recorded a total of 52 fatalities from August 19 to July 20 compared to 60 in the same period in 2018-2019.
“Road accidents involved passengers (19), drivers (12), pedestrians (18) and motorcyclists (3).”
Some accidents have multiple deaths recorded in a single road accident.
The main causes of death were speeding, drunk and driving followed by inconsiderate and drunken pedestrians.
