The players from the Fijian Drua have been blending in well with the Europe-based players during their one week camp in Taveuni. Coach Simon Raiwalui said the Super Rugby competition isn’t too different from the ones in England and France.
“They (Drua players) basically play the same level of competition as the ones from Europe. Seeing them training I can say they have coped well and have matched up to expectations,” Raiwalui said.
He added the Drua set up has provided the national coaching staff a number of options.
“It’s just great. We have a good number of Drua players in the squad and this would not have been possible if the franchise didn’t exist.”
The side wraps up training in Welagi, Taveuni today before heading back to Viti Levu tomorrow.
They will be camping in Nadi next week. Raiwalui said, while in Nadi, the side will use the facilities at the Drua base-camp in Legalega.
The national side is preparing for the Pacific Nations Cup where they will face Tonga, Samoa and Japan.
They will then play England and France in build-up matches heading into the Rugby World Cup in France in October.
