The Coalition Government has re-established the Public Works Department (PWD) to improve rural roads nationwide with an initial setup cost of $5million.
The PWD budgetary allotment is part of the allocation of $98.3m for the Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Service and Transport.
Finance Minister Biman Prasad also told Parliament the Government would maintain its commitment towards achieving 100 per cent access to affordable and reliable sources of energy.
A $4.1m is allocated for the completion of 111 grid extension schemes by Energy Fiji Ltd.
“Additionally, the Department of Energy will continue to facilitate house wiring connections for completed grid extension projects with a budget provision of $3million,” Mr Prasad said.
