The Fiji Pearls will head to the Netball World Cup in South Africa prepared to play every game like the final.
The Pearls are grouped with Australia, Tonga and Zimbabwe, all of whom are ranked higher than Fiji. Australia holds top spot in the netball world rankings, followed by Tonga at seventh place and Zimbabwe at 13th.
The Fiji Pearls are ranked 19th. Fiji Pearls CEO Vivian Koster said the team had been working on measures and the players were determined to give their all and made a strong impression on their opponents.
“We’re just preparing for each game as it comes,” Ms Koster said.
“Our first game is against Tonga Tala. They’re ranked higher than we are, but we are going in with some knowledge and working on how we can play them.
“We will be putting our best efforts on the court. That’s our expectation, and we will play every game like it’s the final.”
The Fiji Pearls start their Netball World Cup campaign against Tonga Tala on July 28 at 7pm at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
