A Lautoka mother encountered yet another near-death experience on Friday night when a bus crashed on her porch forcing her to storm outside with her eight-year-old son minutes after enjoying her dinner.

The incident happened barely a week after the horrific bus accident involving 78 students of Lautoka’s Delana Primary School and a bus fire in Olosara, Sigatoka.

Sheetal Kumar said her sister was enjoying her usual Friday night dinner with her only son in their Saru home a little after 7pm when all of a sudden they saw bright lights through their door followed by a loud, thunderous crash.

Ms Kumar claimed the bus damaged parts of their 33-year-old home and they would follow all proper processes to ensure the culprit was taken to task and proper compensation processes followed.

“My sister took hold of her son, ran to the back and at the same time alerted her neighbours as well,” Ms Kumar said.

“She’s totally shaken and the son as well and we are just trying to give them the comfort they need right now.

“My mum is abroad and we’ve informed her of the incident and we are awaiting police and LTA reports before proceeding with damage reports.”

Ms Kumar claimed the bus was parked on a steep slope a few metres away from their home and swerved into their compound, missed the prayer place before it plunged into their home.

The Lautoka resident said it was quite terrifying to note these most recent accidents involving buses, and it was time companies take ownership because people’s lives continue to be at risk.

Police media officer Wame Bautolu said the bus was examined at the scene and later released.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau has assured the public that thorough investigations will be conducted to ascertain the causes of the most recent accidents.
