The Chinese Government is prepared to fund the cost of rectifying defects at the Navua Hospital.

Ambassador Zhou Jian gave this assurance this week when asked about statements made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad — that the Navua Hospital “was in a complete disaster in terms of construction”.

Prof Prasad was told last Saturday the hospital did not have a completion certificate.

“There are major electrical faults and it was not done according to standards,” he said.

“So we have asked the Ministry of Health, Energy Fiji Ltd to look at that and get us a report.”

Prof Prasad said the issues faced by the hospital was unattended to by the previous government.

“This is something that people like the Opposition leader Inia Seruiratu should be answering.

“The 2023-2024 National Budget will set the foundation to take Fiji out of the mess that his FijiFirst government created and he was part of it.”

China had provided an $11 million grant to build the hospital.
