A fast food chain restaurant has signed a $20,000 backing with the Nadi Rugby Union to assist its rugby teams for the 2023 Fiji Rugby Union-sanctioned competitions.

The union and McDonald’s Fiji signed a memorandum of understanding in Nadi earlier this month to formalise the support.

“We acknowledge the support from McDonald’s over the years as they are part of NRU’s vuvale partnership for the past eight years,” said union vice-president Suliasi Saukawa.

He added they were grateful for the partnership, especially the specific provisions for women’s rugby which boosted the McDonald’s Nadi under-19 Vulaus to retain its Marama U19 title after beating Suva.

“The sponsorship is a great boost going into the season and also for the development of the sport,” Saukawa said.

“As a result of the success of our U19 Vulaus, a number of them have been drafted into the FRU High Performance Unit program. This is in addition to those players that were selected for national duties.”
