The Nadi rugby senior side put on a dominant display against Nadroga in a friendly match to win 21-0 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Friday.

The match was the last of the three pre-season games between the two rugby unions before the Skipper Cup begins on July 8.

The Jetsetters had the services of former national sevens reps Semi Kunatani and Vatemo Ravouvou and dominanted the physical confrontations against the Stallions.

Nadi scored their first try through Ilisoni Galala.

The referee awarded Nadi a penalty try after a number of infringements by the Nadroga team five metres from their tryline. Kunatani, who played at number eight, was the fulcrum of Nadi’s forward pack and got his reward from a team effort.

“We played with some of the best players in the third team and they nailed it,” said Nadi manager Epeli Qoro.

He said despite the win, they had identified some weakness in their play and would work on them.

“We thank the Nadroga team for giving us a good game.”

Nadroga coach Etonia Naba said they brought an extended squad made of of young players.

“Most of the development boys from last year have found employment opportunities with the National Fire Authority, Fiji Police Force, Fiji Navy and Republic of Fiji Military Forces and have moved on.

“There are only few boys from last year with us, while the rest are new and we are trying to develop them,” he said. The former national sevens player acknowledged his players for their effort and said they would work on their mistakes before their first round of matches in the Skipper Cup.

“We are still testing all the boys to get the best combination and I am thankful to some of the boys who has raised their hands up to represent Nadroga this season,” said Naba.
