Fiji’s new super welterweight champion Winston Hill has confirmed that Lewis-Hill Boxing Promotions will host a boxing event in Suva later next month.
The Olympian and Commonwealth bronze medallist made the announcement yesterday during a press conference at the AFL Logistics headquarters in Suva.
“This event, similar to the last one under Lewis-Hill Boxing Promotion in March, will be held at the Vodafone Arena on July 15. Our last event was the Pathway Pacific Showdown Lewis-Hill Promotions that was held in March,” Hill said.
He also announced the main bout of the event will be between local boxers James “The Beast” Singh and Semi Dauloloma for the heavyweight title of Fiji.
“I believe this will be a fight everyone will be looking forward to because we have not had a heavyweight title fight in Fiji for a very long time,” Hill said.
“This bout will go down as one of the mega fights in Fiji after a very long time.” Isikeli Senidoko will take on Joseph Kwajo for a rematch in the main supporting bout.
“This will also be another fight many will be looking forward to because the last time they met, Kwajo managed to win the fight but Senidoko won the hearts of the spectators.
“The third bout for that evening will be the cruiserweight champion Alivereti Kauyaca versus Apisai Naciqa.”
He said the purpose of hosting such boxing events was to lift the standard of the sport in Fiji.
“That’s the main reason we have such events, to increase the standard of boxing in Fiji. I believe Fiji has a very bright future in boxing.
“This year alone there were so many achievements by local boxers at overseas tournaments like Jone Koroilagilagi creating history by becoming the first Fijian to win an official boxing match in a World Championship bout.”
Hill thanked AFL Logistics for their continuous support towards Lewis-Hill Boxing Promotions over the past few years.
“I just want to thank AFL Logistics for their sponsorship and for always being there for me when I need them in terms of equipment and other things I need for training.”
