Saru Dragons were taken to the wire last weekend after edging a determined Police Sharks side, 16-14, in round five of the Vodafone Super 8 Premiership at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

The unbeaten Dragons currently lead the points table with five wins from as many games and are looking to continue their winning streak when they face the Maitaivalu Bears in the next round of the tournament.

Dragons media officer, Krishneel Sen, said their clash against the Police Sharks, was probably their toughest match so far.

“I’d say our game against the Police Sharks was our toughest so far.

“They were quick in their attacks, and pounced on our mistakes at every given opportunity,” he said.

The Dragons were able to tie the scores 14-all with minutes left until the final hooter, before converting their try to seal the win.

“Luckily we were able to steal the game through our conversion. “But hats off to the men in blue for giving us a tough challenge.”

He said the Dragons approached all their games with the same intensity as if they were playing in the finals.

“We do not underestimate any teams in the competition, because none of them are here to make the numbers, but are here to win.”

However, he added that their clash last weekend brought to light a number of areas they needed to work on.

“I would say our defense needs a lot of improvement.

“Looking at our last game, we saw that we were a bit slack with our defense, and we need to sharpen this area as we move forward into the tournament.”
