Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa says she is looking forward to seeing more women representation and participation in the Great Council of Chiefs.

She said this while speaking to The Fiji Times on Monday after the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) welcoming service at the Ratu Cakobau Memorial Church on Bau Island.

Ro Teimumu said while they would like to see more women representation at the meeting, ultimately it was up to the people to decide.

“It’s in things like how they look at the reps who are attending those meetings because the reps come from the various provinces,” she said.

Ro Teimumu said if the people think there should be a woman representative, one of the three reps could be a woman.

“How that woman is selected, if they change the system to look at women who are contributing to their province, that’s one way of looking at it and that way we can get more women representation.”

Whether this would come to pass Ro Teimumu said she was looking forward to having women better represented at the meetings.

“Women do make a difference and that is what I am looking forward to, more women representation.”
