Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua lock Jade Coates said great teams come together in their tough times and that was what the girls managed to do this season.
Speaking to this newspaper at the Nadi International Airport on her arrival, she said the girls played the full 80 minutes of rugby in the Super W grand final win against the Queensland Reds on Saturday.
“The season has not been easy. We had our highs and lows and only great teams come together in their tough times and that was what we did,” Coates said.
Coates, who has links to Nananu, Tailevu, has been with the squad since the beginning of their inaugural season last year.
She said it was a very proud moment to win back-to-back titles.
“It is all about playing the full 80 minutes. The Reds are an exciting team and they brought the game to us.
“There were moments in the game where we lacked discipline but we managed to get the win.”
She said it was very important for the girls to soak in the moment.
“For some of these girls, it is for the first time winning something like this.
“More than the win, it is about what we have been through and the journey along the way and I think that is something to celebrate about.”
