About 37 swimmers have secured their spots in the open nationals after the first day at the Long Course Open Nationals in Suva yesterday.

Swimming Fiji technical consultant Trisa Dunn said the timings recorded on the first day wasn’t too impressive but expect it to improve today.

“It was the first day, but timings were not as expected. Maybe because it’s the opening day and swimmers will get adjusted to the environment and we expect better timings from the second day,” she said.

The event will also be used as a preparation ground for the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands later this year.

Competition continues today at the Olympic Pool in Suva and concludes with the finals tomorrow.
