More than 180 police recruits from the Fiji Police Academy officers recently visited seven villages along the Queens highway in the Southern Division as part of their community engagements in tackling social issues and strengthening crime prevention efforts.
The 185 officers consisted of officers from Fiji Police, Nauru Police and Tuvalu Police Force, and their visitation engagements were aimed at enhancing public speaking skills.
The recruits were divided into their seven squads, and each were distributed to the seven villages of Muaivuso, Nabaka, Namakala, Waiqanake, Ucuinamono, Togalevu and Kalokolevu.
Also accompanying the recruits during the two-day tour was New Zealand Police senior advisor Jasmine Woolet who was working in Fiji under the Fiji Police Partnership Program.
They left the academy on Wednesday to spend one night and conduct awareness at their selected villagers and returned yesterday after they summed up their awareness campaign at Muaivuso village.
Fiji Police Divisional Manager Community Policing (DMCP) Southern Division Superintendent of Police (SP) Ruci Nasemira said the visit by the recruits accompanied by Southern Division community policing officers would go a long way in fostering strong ties between police and the community.
The community visitation by the recruits was welcomed by the chiefs, elders and the people of the vanua of Navukavu, Natauvakarua and Tabaivalu.
