Leading global surfing brand Rip Curl has partnered with Tourism Fiji for the first-ever International Surfing Association virtual competition.
According to Tourism Fiji, the partnership will allow the agency to work with the global brand in recognising professional surfers.
The 10-day Rip Curl Virtual Pro uses cutting-edge technology to analyse data of each surfer participating in International Surfing Association sanctioned competition to measure their performance based on five criteria’s, distance paddled, surf time, total waves surfed, top speed and longest wave surfed.
The Rip Curl Virtual Pro, presented in partnership with Tourism Fiji, was made possible by Rip Curl’s advanced technology, which allowed surfers worldwide to plan, capture, and revisit their surfing experiences on their smartphones.
Tourism Fiji Head of Global Marketing, Srishti Narayan said they were excited to be working with the global brand on an innovative initiative.
“We’re really thrilled to bring the second part of our brand partnership with Rip Curl to life and align with a brand bringing an innovative lens to surf culture,” she said.
According to Tourism Fiji, the competition comes after a notable increase in surfing participation globally, with the International Surfing Association reporting the number of surfers worldwide has increased by 25 per cent over the past decade, with more than 35 million people now enjoying the sport.
