“The trend of bullying, drug use and indiscipline among our students has become a worrying trend.”
These were the words of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Minister, Lynda Tabuya during her address to Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) students during the Scholastic Crime Stoppers Program launch at the school this month.
She thanked the Fiji Police Force Crime Stoppers team for initiating the program in trying to curb the various issues surrounding children and youths in Fiji.
She highlighted that the program would help highlight and address issues surrounding cyber-crime, sexual offences, drugs and juvenile offences.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Ms Tabuya challenged the students and urged them to stop the bullying culture that is prominent amongst boarding schools.
She said students should rather nurture values like love, kindness, respect and honesty instead.
The Fiji Police Force also thanked the principal of the school, teachers and students for signing up for the Crime Stoppers Fiji Scholastic Program.
The force says that the program is designed to instil discipline among students and to promote the importance of assisting and caring for others.
It also educates students to become socially responsible/law abiding students with the aim of providing a safer environment to study and work in for both them and their teachers.
A total of 50 students were selected to be part of the Scholastic Crime Stoppers Program.
