Flight bookings from the Australian market have grown at an average of seven per cent per week since the beginning of April.
Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka said the Fiji Airways reservations were bookings for the next 12 months.
“Fiji Airways is looking at rates above pre-pandemic levels so we are growing and the demand for Fiji where happiness comes naturally is stronger than it has ever been,” he said.
“As at April 2, Australian market bookings have been growing at an average of seven per cent every week.
“Forward bookings for the next 12 months are more than 34.5 per cent ahead of 2019.”
He said these bookings could only be increased by the airline’s inclusion of two new Airbus A350s later this year.
“By taking delivery of two new Airbus A350s in July and August we have the opportunity for more services and seats to Australia.
“We have been market ready for more than two years now and we are more than ready to welcome the opportunity to strengthen travel between our two nations.”
Mr Gavoka, who was on a promotional flight to Canberra last Friday, explained that the national airline planned to work with the Canberra Government to foster their relationship which has been strengthened by the new service by Fiji Airways.
“The Australian capital becomes our national airlines 22nd direct destination connecting to vibrant cities.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Canberra Airport officials and the Australian Capital Territory ACT Government for welcoming us and putting together packages for Fiji Airways to commence flights and services that includes marketing and development funds to grow the route.
“We have our Vuvale Partnership and this bares testament.”
