Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua has asked police to provide security at Dreketi Health Centre staff quarters after doctors complained about patients seeking medical attention at odd hours.
The request from medical personnel came during the minister’s northern tour which began on Tuesday.
He said the medical staff members told him that patients were arriving at their quarters during odd hours of the night, seeking medical help.
Mr Tikoduadua visited the health centre at the start of his northern tour.
“Police need to also patrol the health centre area because the doctor told me that patients are coming to see them at the house,” he said.
“Please include the health centre area as your route of patrol to look after the health officials.”
Mr Tikoduadua was also informed of increasing reports of stolen cattle from the area of Lekutu.
Lekutu police post officer Joana Waqa told him that cattle theft was a huge issue in the area. She said the challenge they faced was locating the owners because most of the stolen cattle were not tagged nor were they branded.
