Newly-appointed Chinese ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian says he will work with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to entice 1 per cent of the 30 million Chinese tourists who holiday in South East Asia every year.
“If we attract 1 per cent which is approximately 300,000 of them to come further to Fiji, the more beautiful place, then it will be a big number,” he said this week in Suva.
Mr Jian said he would work with Mr Rabuka to “work hard in attracting more Chinese tourists to visit Fiji”.
He said in 2022, China’s GDP grew by 3 per cent – higher than the United States of America, Japan and Germany.
“China’s economy will be resilient and promising in the future.
“The door of China will be more widely open and will never be closed.”
Pre-COVID-19, Fiji used to receive 46,000 tourists from China on an annual basis.
