GCC to convene after 16 years

THE date of the first Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) meeting has been confirmed, 16 years after it was abolished.

This was confirmed last night by Ratu Jack Komaitai, the chief herald (matanivanua) to Turaga Bale na Vunivalu na Tui Kaba Ratu Epenisa Cakobau.

Ministry of iTaukei Affairs permanent secretary Pita Tagicakirewa led a delegation to the chiefly residence of Mateiwelagi on Bau Island where they presented a tabua to Ratu Epenisa to traditionally inform him of their plans.

Ratu Aisea said they looked forward to hosting the GCC meeting. The meeting will be held on Bau Island from May 24 25.
