Students turned the University of the South Pacific into a sea of colours while traditional Hindi music echoed throughout Laucala Bay campus yesterday.

The occasion was the USP Indian Students Association hosting Holi celebrations.

Rohit Deo, from the university’s chaplain’s office, said it was important to embrace diversity by celebrating the various religions and religious events at the regional learning centre.

“The university is always supportive of all festivals within the USP community. The great thing about these kinds of celebrations is it brings the university community together,” he said.

Mr Deo said that the significance of Holi — the victory of good over evil — sent an important message that as staff and students, the focus must always be on practising good deeds.

The celebrations saw performances from various student groups who had been practising over the past two weeks for the event.

The Holi celebration saw large number of staff and students from all ethnic groups join the festivities, smothering each other with colourful powder to mark the event.
