ACTING Health and Medical services Minister Lynda Tabuya and permanent secretary Dr James Fong recently received a team from the Latter-Day Saints Church at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s laundry and sewing departments.
The LDS Church team was led by head of charities Pacific Taniela Wakolo, head of LDS charities in Fiji Paul Whippy, welfare and self-reliance manager Uraia Levaci and communications specialist Lavinia Kaumaitotoya.
The LDS Church team is in talks with the ministry in trying to find areas and possible avenues where they would able to assist the ministry with the provision of funding.
The tour of the laundry and sewing facilities gave the LDS Church team a first-hand look at the needs and the possible interventions and way forward in collaboration with the ministry.
“We welcome this initiative by the LDS Church in its efforts to assist the Fiji Government by providing valuable assistance to allow the staff of the Ministry of Health to carry out their duties to their fullest potential,” Ms Tabuya said.
She expressed interest in forging closer partnerships with the LDS Church and was looking forward to a positive outcome from the consultation.
