A $500 MILLION investment by Tourism Capital Partners has been described as a powerful economic drive for Fiji.
Tourism Capital Partners which is the company behind Six Senses in Malolo, launched its newest project – Sorena Naisoso project at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva last week.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad said the Sorena Naisoso Project was an example of powerful economic drive for Fiji, providing a construction stimulus of about $240m and with an operational stimulus of about $25m per year.
He said the project was expected to create $1.1 billion capital expenditure stimulus and an annual stimulus of about $300m.
Meanwhile deputy Prime Minister and Tourism and Civil Aviation minister Viliame Gavoka said the national airline, Fiji Airways would add two more new planes to its fleet in July. Mr Gavoka highlighted this while speaking at the launch of the first phase of the Sorena Naisoso Project at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.
“In tourism, we need to build 4000 rooms with the two A 350s that will arrive in July for the national airline,” he said.
“There will will be imbalance in the air inventory and land inventory, it will be quite profound, hence the need to quickly build.
“Our national airline is forecasting about 2 million passengers this year, we will be carrying this kind of numbers in 2023.
“We have picked up after the COVID-19 pandemic and this kind of demand is gaining moment.”
Mr Gavoka said there had been many positive feedbacks in the air of civil aviation during the Pacific Forum Leaders meeting in Nadi.
“Collectively we control a very huge part of the Pacific and in the middle of all this, there is Fiji and I believe that is more investment to come.
