China and Fiji have expressed their interest to explore ways to promote trade and investment relations following a meeting by the Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry and a delegation from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
The Chinese embassy stated that trade and investment had always been an important factor in the bilateral relationship between Fiji and China.
According to Chinese statistics, in 2022 the bilateral import and export trade totalled $US549 million ($F1.2 billion), a 21.6 per cent increase on a year-to-year basis.
With the ease of restrictions of border control measures imposed against COVID-19, Fiji’s business community is expected to continue participating in the Canton Fair and the China International Import Expo which will help businesspeople from China and Fiji to better explore each other’s markets and specialty products.
The delegation headed by CCPIT vice chairman Chen Jianan had a meeting with the trade team of the ministry on Wednesday.
