Bulk of the wood chips from Fiji was exported to China in 2020-2021 financial year, states the Ministry of Forests annual report that was tabled in Parliament last week.
$65.3 million of pine chips were exported overseas out of the total $97.3 million export revenue for all timber products. Sawn timber worth $20.7 million were exported, slabs at $6.1 million, decking worth $2.99 million and plywood valued at $1.0 million were exported.
“The major export destinations for 2020-2021FY are China at $44.6 million, Japan at $23.2 million, Hong Kong at $10.9 million, United States of America at $8.1 million, Dominican Republic at $2.4 million and others totalling to $8.1 million,” states the annual report.
