Floodwaters swept through the Ba Municipal Market early last Friday, forcing vendors to return home early.
Anaseini Marakiwai, 70, said she could only secure some of her produce as she needed to rush back to her home in Nasolo.
“It is hard being a vendor and having to go through the same problem over and over again,” Ms Marakiwai said.
“I came early this morning to check on my produce and secure it in a safe location and I’m hoping the water level doesn’t rise, otherwise everything will be damaged.
“Flooding is the major problem that us vendors in Ba go through every year and I really hope something will be done about it.”
Fresh vegetable produce were seen floating near the Ba Market area as vendors worked out ways to secure their produce before rushing back home.
Police officers were also present to direct residents and schoolchildren home.
Meanwhile, 30 homes in Tavua were under floodwaters from Thursday night.
Former Tavua district representative Filimoni Caucau said these were the same homes that battled floodwaters whenever the Nasivi River burst its banks.
He said he hoped the river would be dredged to counter the ongoing flooding problem.
