Macuata lass and Fiji Kula rep Anasimeci Volitikoro scored three goals for Labasa as the team from the North became the first side to win the inaugural women’s Pillay Garments Champion vs Champion match.

Labasa were sensational in their 4-3 win against Ba at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.

The Labasa striker, who hails from Namuka, Visoko in Macuata, scored her first goal in the 43rd minute of the first half after Fiji Kula captain Sofi Diyalowai scored the opening goal.

Labasa kept fighting throughout and was able to break through the Ba defence Volitikoro scoring her second goal to lead 3-0 at half-time.

Ba put on a better performance in the second half with Narieta Leba scoring their first goal. Both teams struggled through the heat and kept pushing each other, Ba came in tough as they made changes to their side.

Labasa wasn’t ready to give up and on a counter-attack, Volitikoro scored her third goal to lead 4-1. A blunder in the Labasa team saw Ba taking advantage through Dema Nasau to close the gap 2-4.

With few minutes left Ba fought hard and applied pressure on the Labasa side, again Nasau beat defenders and scored from close range. Volitikoro said before the game started that she was ready to give her life for this match.

“It is the first time CVC is introduced to the women’s division and winning it was our main aim,” she said. Coach Arthur Simmons said the girls had not trained together and the main message was to go out and enjoy themselves.

“The word also was to score fast but score early,” he said. “The girls did great, hats off to them for the tremendous effort and team work.” The side walked away with $2500 prizemoney.
