Local company Fiji Chemicals Ltd has offered to conduct a deep clean of washrooms at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s Maternity Ward.
“We are happy to help,” said Fiji Chemicals Ltd managing director Darran Bentley-Fisher.
He said his wife Mue Bentley-Fisher had given birth to four of their children in the facility.
Mr Bentley-Fisher said he was alerted to the issue by International Women’s Association (IWA) president Judy Compain’s social media post showing the state of the washrooms and decided to offer a deep clean free of charge using Fiji Chemicals Ltd hospital grade cleaning products.
“I actually went to the hospital with her after posting the photos on social media.
“We did not only look at the women’s maternity bathroom but the children’s ward as well and it should not be in the state as it is.
“So we are happy to help and make sure the women, children and people who are using it are using hygienically cleaned facilities which they aren’t at the moment.
“I could do a bacterial test at the bathrooms and guarantee you they would not be hygienically clean.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic the company gave hygiene and cleaning products to the health ministry and non-governmental organisations.
