Fiji Pearls Specialist Coach Yvette McCausland-Durie visited the academy training camp where she met development players at the Vodafone Arena in Suva yesterday.

During the visit, she encouraged the players to work hard towards their goals.

“One of the very important messages from me was just about being comfortable being uncomfortable,” McCausland-Durie said.

“For them to remember they have been chosen because they’ve got huge talent, but that means the responsibility is to keep working hard when other might not want to.”

She commended Netball Fiji for setting up the initiative to develop the depth of Fiji netball.

“I think the academy pathway developed here by Netball Fiji is absolutely critical. You’ll always come to a point where people retire and move on,” she said.

“That ability to have internal competition and develop your own potential to play the style that is Fiji, I think is absolutely amazing.

“To see them (players) all here and committed and the distances they travelled is a very important part of pathway.”

McCausland-Durie was the ANZ Premiership Coach of the Year in New Zealand and was appointed as specialist coach for the Fiji Pearls ahead of the Netball World Cup (NWC23) in South Africa this July.
