Post Fiji Ltd congratulates the new government and hopes to collaborate with new ministers to bring their services to rural and remote areas.

With the reviewed budget planned for mid-2023, Post Fiji hopes for government assistance to make postal services more accessible.

Already working with an insurance agent to bring insurance plans to rural areas, Post Fiji chief executive officer Dr Anirudha Bansod believes collaboration with government bodies will allow them to support community based initiatives like providing assistance and aid after a natural disaster.

“I’m proud to say Post Fiji sustains on its own without a single grant, but if the government could provide support, especially for our rural post shops, then we can enhance the services to the rural areas because they definitely deserve that.

“You see, when natural disasters happen, when cyclones come around, the postal services can be used by the government intensively to deliver those services through EMS and parcel services,” said Dr Bansod.

Dr Bansod believes it makes sense for government to deliver disaster recovery packages through Post Fiji as they already have the widespread reach and outlets on many of Fiji’s islands, and Post Fiji would be glad to give back to affected communities.

“We are a self-sustaining company but for any major projects we need a capital injection and we earnestly feel that this government will consider our request in their coming budget and see if they have the provisions for giving certain funds to us so that that can be utilised in refurbishing our post shops in the rural as well as urban areas.

“And we assure the government that every cent which is taxpayer’s money and government money will be utilised in a very appropriate manner.”
