The largest Hindu organisation in the country Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha has welcomed Government’s announcement that there will a national holiday in Fiji to mark Girmit Day.
Acting president Dhirendra Nand said the coalition Government had given a historical New Year’s gift to all descendants of the girmitya.
“I thank the Prime Minister for staying true to his pre-election vow to the people of Fiji,” Mr Nand said.
“Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha welcomes the Prime Minister’s decision and is hopeful that this gives enormous confidence to the people of Fiji for better future, peace and prosperity. It’s a historic occasion since the descendants of the girmit have been an integral part of Fiji.”
Mr Nand said the Sabha would get together with other stakeholders to prepare for a grand celebration.
