Jone Delai said he “voted for change” because he, like many others in Naitasiri, continued to be plagued with transportation issues.
The 49-year-old farmer said he was fortunate to be able to get transport from where he lives in Qiolevu to vote at Adi Cakobau School.
Mr Delai said transportation was a huge issue for farmers and residents that live around his area.
“The bus comes to our area twice a day – in the morning and in the evening,” he said.
“School is about to come to an end and when that happens, there will be no more buses. We have to find our own transport to town and back. This is very hard for us.”
Mr Delai said he hoped his vote would count towards a change in the bus schedule.
“We need buses to go at least three to four times a day. It’s expensive getting our own transport to travel to town.
“Today (yesterday), as I cast my vote, it is my hope that the government that comes in will allow for more buses to run this way, especially during school holidays.”
