More than 6900 children are persently being assisted by the Foundation for the Education of the Needy Children in Fiji (FENC Fiji).

This was confirmed by their national co-ordinator Priya Lata.

“Since 2009, we have assisted more than 25,000 children,” she said.

Ms Lata said more than 2000 new applications was being reviewed by the non- profit organisation.

“We have a very strict criteria and applications are vetted along that line.

“We provide the needy children with full backpack including books, stationery and bags.

“Currently we are reviewing whether we can assist them also with school uniform and shoes.”

She said parents who are caught double-dipping the process or providing false information had their applications terminated.

“We do home visits and rely on community leaders and especially school teachers to provide us with correct information about any particular child,” she said.
