We have power and pressure to do this, says Dr Ali

WOMEN in Business (WIB) held its annual cocktail party at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on Tuesday to celebrate its many successes as an organisation and the recent achievements of its passionately supportive members.

WIB president Dr Nur Bano Ali congratulated the winners of the recent WIB Awards event and emphasised the coming together of market competitors as sponsors of the awards; putting aside the rivalries as a testament to their dedication to the cause.

“We can compete but we can still combine and unite on a common platform promoting the main objective, which is the enhancement of women in the public and commercial sectors.

“We stand for women in leadership and commerce and we will not rest until we have enough females in the public-commercial sector,” said Dr Ali.

WIB stands not only for prominent businesswomen but as a support system for all who have been marginalised and underrepresented in their industries.

“We want to tackle all kinds of discrimination, harassment, bullying, pushing women around and not offering them an equal platform.

“We’re very aware we have the power and pressure to do this and we want to do it,” she said of bringing equality beyond just binary gender issues.

The cocktail event bringing 2022 to a close for the organisation, a major target for 2023 is tackling sexual harassment and related issues in the workplace.
