The Digicel Kula Girls side finished third at the Pacific Four Nations football tournament in Canberra, Australia today.
This after the side was held to a 1-all draw by the Solomon Islands in their last pool match in Canberra, Australia yesterday.
Luisa Tamanitoakula put Fiji ahead late in the first spell.
Cema Nasau had set up Tamanitoakula after beating a couple of defenders and putting it on a plate for her striker to score. Fiji led 1-nil at half time.
The Solomon Islands team came out firing in the second spell looking for an equaliser.
They were rewarded minutes in taking advantage of a blunder by the Fijian defence. Fiji tried hard but failed to convert their opportunities into goals.
Fijian coach Flemming Serristlev was satisfied with the point from the match.
“I think the girls played really well. We should have really won but we missed so many opportunities. I think the Solomon’s goal was because of a mistake by us but we will take the point,” the national coach said.
He added the team has learnt a lot from this tournament.
“We played three quality matches and it’s just great to have played against some great teams.
“The girls have surely got the much needed exposure they had come here for.”
Meanwhile, Nasau was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
The Fiji team returns on Tuesday.
