Surgical teams at the Labasa and Colonial War Memorial hospitals are pre-screening patients in need of general plastic and reconstructive surgery in preparation for an Interplast Australia and New Zealand team schedule to arrive in the country this weekend.

The team will visit the Labasa Hospital from November 13 to 19 and CWM Hospital from November 20 to 22.

“Given the length of time since Interplast has last visited Fiji (because of COVID-19 restrictions), the local surgical teams in Labasa and Suva are pre-screening patients from the existing large caseload, and the usual public consultations clinics will not run for this visit,” Interplast said in a media statement.

“For patients who require an assessment for plastic and reconstructive surgical conditions (including cleft lip and palate, scarring from burns, hand injuries and tumours) are urged to contact the surgical unit at Labasa General Hospital or CWM Hospital to make an appointment at the regular outpatient’s clinic.”

To make an appointment to be screened by the surgical team in Labasa, contact: Surgical Unit at the Labasa Hospital. Ph: 8811444 – ext 169 (SOPD), ask for Dr Scott Buadromo.

To make an appointment to be screened by the surgical team in Suva, contact: Surgical Unit at the CWM Hospital Ph: 3313 444.

Interplast medical teams, funded by the Australian government, Rotary clubs in Australia and New Zealand and other generous donors, have been visiting Fiji since 1983 to provide free surgical intervention and training for local clinicians.

This is Interplast’s 145th visit to Fiji since 1983, and is made possible through the generosity of Rotarians from District 9675 and other individuals committed to repairing bodies and rebuilding lives.
