The 2022 Fiji Gold Reggae Festival was a success as close to 800 people turned up at Buckhurst and Bidesi grounds to witness great live reggae music.

Festival planner Darlene Underwood said despite the festival being a first of its kind the turnout was great.

“We didn’t sell all the tickets and we did go through some hurdles in the beginning but which first time event doesn’t – but at the end the turnout was pleasing,” she said.

“Business for vendors stared slow however it picked up once the crowd started coming in.”

Ms Underwood said the musicianship on show was of very high quality.

“I’m going to make this Fiji’s premier music event and it’s going to be purely reggae and hosted by the Suva City – it has very powerful potential to grow just like the Uprising Musical Festival.”

She added that she had big plans set up for the next reggae festival in the future.

“Bands like UB40, Big Mountain and many others, now they’ve all approached me to perform in Fiji and to make this happen I’m thinking of gathering stakeholders and relevant authorities so that they can in some way provide assistance to see this happen – that’s something we’re thinking of doing down the line.”

Ms Underwood thanked the sponsors, her team and the people that showed up to make the event a memorable one.
