The Nairukuruku Bay team from Levuka, Ovalau plans to participate in more tournaments in a bid to give their players more exposure.
The aim of the team is to get some players selected into the national team and also secure playing contracts for a bright future.
Nairukuruku Bay is one of the unknown teams participating in the 1st Fiji Bitter Nacula Yasawa 7s at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
Team manager Inoke Rasiga said the team was formed this year.
“This is our second appearance in the Fiji Bitter sponsored 7s tournament,” Rasiga said.
“We played in the Fiji Bitter Nahehevia 7s at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka a couple of months ago.
“We want to develop the boys to become good rugby players so they can secure a bright future through the sport.
“We want to participate in more tournaments to give the boys the much needed exposure.
“Through rugby hopefully some of our boys can make it into the Fiji team and also get overseas contracts.”
The Nairukuruku Bay team recorded a draw and a loss in the opening round of the pool matches.
“The performance of the boys was good in the pool as we came up against the bigger known teams,” Rasiga said.
“We drew Lami Cavaliers 5-all but lost Nawaka 7-12 so the boys played gallantly.”
