Fiji to host tournament

Basketball Fiji, in partnership with the Fijian Government, will host the 2022 Melanesian Basketball Games from the October 26-29 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

BF chief operating officer Lai Puamau said Fiji, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands would compete in the international qualifying event.

“The Fiji men’s and women’s teams will be looking to win next week’s regional event and qualify for the 2023 Pacific Games.

Team Fiji will be looking to improve on the last performance of one gold, two silver and a bronze medal at the last Pacific Games in 2019,” he said.

Solomon Islands basketball teams are in the country while the New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea teams are expected to arrive on October 24.

The four-day competition is a qualifying event for the region to the 2023 Pacific Games.

The top two countries from the women’s and men’s competitions would qualify to the Pacific Games 2023.
