Former Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam national president Sadasivan Naicker will be relying on his vast experience and leadership roles in the public and private sector over the years in the lead up to the 2022 polls.

The former customs and tax officer is contesting the 2022 General Election under The People’s Alliance (PA) banner and believes his past involvement in sport, religious and community activities should help him connect with potential voters.

“People already know about me, even before I came into politics – they know me as a credible person with an honest and sincere character and someone who has served people from my school days until today,” he said.

“I have worked with people at all levels – in sporting, religious, community and political levels and have hands-on experience of their needs and concerns.”

Mr Naicker said he wanted to be a politician who stood for righteousness, truth and social justice for all.

“I want to work towards a government that is by the people, of the people and for the people.”

He said while his campaign would focus on various issues affecting the people of Fiji, education was something he was passionate about. Mr Naicker said his experience at the TISI Sangam School of Nursing would give him the opportunity to advocate for better funding and the improvement of the institution.

The Koronubu, Ba native said his decision to apply for The People’s Alliance party ticket was motivated by its leader, its organisational efficiency, its multiracial outlook and the opportunity to work alongside “really deserving, qualified, committed and exemplary people of Fiji”.

“In my leader, Sitiveni Rabuka, I see a man who has honestly, earnestly and sincerely apologised and repented of his sins of 1987. He gave us the 1997 constitution that gave us the first Indo-Fijian prime minister.

He tried out multiracialism with Jai Ram Reddy but it was rejected, and he gave Fijians of Indian descent, especially descendants of girmityas, respect by pledging to support a Girmit Day public holiday.

“He has also said he will grant free access to the family of the late Professor Brij Lal to bring his ashes to Fiji.”

Some of Mr Naicker’s notable achievements include TISI Sangam presidency for 10 years, chairmanship of the Nasinu Football Association and executive board membership for the Fiji Council of Social Services.

Mr Naicker has also been awarded the 25th and 50th Anniversary medals from the President of Fiji in recognition to his contribution to the country.
