If one was to observe Annaya Nisha playing and laughing with her younger sister, they would find it hard to believe the eight-year-old is a cancer survivor.
The Fiji Times came across the siblings while they were enjoying a day out with their mother Nazmeen Nisha during the Walk on Walk Strong (WOWS) Family Fun Day in Lautoka recently.
Ms Nisha said the pair were not only sisters, they were best friends and never far away from each other.
She said sometimes it was difficult for her to stop Annaya from playing with other children, especially with her sister.
“Sometimes I have to say ‘OK that’s enough’ because she always wants to be outside playing,” she said.
“I am very careful with her and have to make sure that she is OK.”
Ms Nisha said her fears stemmed from the first time she found out her daughter had a cancerous tumour growing in her neck.
“She was only two-years-old. “The doctors did an operation and took it out.
“She’s been through chemotherapy too and has to go to the hospital a lot.”
She said with the help of the WOWS Kids Fiji team, Annaya has managed to live the life of a normal eight-year-old.
“I keep praying to God to look after her.
“He gives me the help I need so that she can be healthy and to enjoy herself with her sister and brother.
“It gets hard sometimes, but we have to be strong.”
