Themed “A Transformed, Inclusive and United Fiji”, this year’s Fiji Day is commemorated as Fiji’s 52nd anniversary.

As many people will turn up at Churchill Park in Lautoka for the official celebration today, others will celebrate the day in their very own special ways. From family gatherings to friends’ quick get-togethers, Fiji Day brings people closer and rallies the spirit of togetherness.

In pre-Fiji Day celebrations held last week many around the country had a chance to celebrate the special day in advance.

Today streets, homes and parks will be occupied with the national colours of blue, white and red – the colours that smartly depict Fiji’s noble banner blue. With lovo and barbecues making the ultimate dish for the holiday accompanied with beach picnics, fun day activities and family meet-ups – it is truly a day that brings Fijians together.

The Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in celebrating a Pre-Fiji Day event with market vendors at the Suva Municipal Market on Wednesday stressed the importance of being united.

He said one of the wonderful advantages that Fijians have is the opportunity to celebrate many different occasions, whether it is Diwali, Fiji Independence Day, Constitution Day, Christmas, Eid or other festivals – in that sense it is very unique in the Pacific.

“I wish you all a Happy Fiji Day,” he said.

“This year the official celebrations will be held in Churchill Park in Lautoka but of course we will be celebrating Fiji Day throughout Fiji.”

Many Fijians in businesses, schools, markets, organisations and associations had celebrated Fiji Day early last week with their own pre-celebration programs and activities.
