Twelve families in Seaqaqa now have access to clean drinking water. Years of depending on rain harvesting and nearby creeks have ended for these families in Vunimako, a well-known cane farming area.
In commissioning the project, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Inia Seruiratu said the $9000 project would also benefit the children who attended a nearby school.
“This area was established in the 1970s and is a well-known cane farming area and this project is a commitment by Government and our Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama as Minister for Sugar to continue supporting canefarmers,” he said.
“This project will improve water supply for the families and neighbouring areas, too,” Mr Seruiratu said.
“It also ensures that in supporting these families with such projects, they will continue to concentrate on sugarcane farming.
“We have improved the roads and brought in electricity and water and it’s all part of improving their living conditions.”
Mr Seruiratu assured the community that the Government would continue to support them with such projects.
