Ra High School will adopt a tactical approach to counter the bigger Ratu Navula College boys during the Vodafone Super Deans Championship under-19 final at Churchill Park in Lautoka tomorrow.
Reaching the final for the first time has been a big achievement for the school.
Team manager Josaia Rasiga said their preparations had gone well this week and they were looking forward to the final.
“The students are psyched up for that as this is the first time for the team to play in the final,” Rasiga said.
“The boys are also hyped. We have been working on our mistakes and trying to improve on our weaknesses from the previous games. We know that it is an important game and we will see what happens on the field on Saturday.”
Ra High School defeated Nasinu Secondary School 15-13 in the quarter-finals at Bidesi Ground in Suva a fortnight ago. Rasiga said the scrum was one of their biggest concerns that they worked on this week.
“We will also need to improve on our general facet of the game,” he said.
“Defence is the main key in any game. The breakdown in the rucks will be very important. Since we do not have the size to match Ratu Navula College, we will need to be technical.
“We have some niggling injuries because it has been a long campaign as we have been playing all Saturday, but we have worked on that also this week going through physiotherapy work.”
Rasiga said the support for the team had been overwhelming.
“This first time we have received such support, which is encouraging. Their morale has been boosted with the visitation of the people of the Yasana, old scholars and parents. We are hoping that we will receive the same support at Churchill Park during our game.”
Ra High School will take on Ratu Navula College at 2.40pm.
